Photo Shoot Day - Giving Credit Where Credit is Due

A Blog needs an eye catching photo, so I enlisted my daughter aka my tech support person, to join us on a very frigid hike to Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve

in Fishers, IN to help capture the Muddy Boots image (she’s already noted we need a muddier boot picture). We snapped lots of photos.( But apparently none of her facing me haha.) Including many of the nearly frozen creek meandering through the park, but we didn’t linger long. This was her first outing after her Covid quarantine; a short hike was enough for her today. We said our goodbyes and thank yous, then after she headed home we planned to loop back in to the park and hike a different trail. As mentioned, I don’t intend to allow weather to deter us from getting out, and we were definitely dressed for the cold, but today we had the extra element of freezing rain heading into the area. It was a very odd weather day. It wasn’t long after heading back into the woods that my phone alerted me of imminent rain so we cut the hike short and headed to the car to continue our errands. I don’t mess with freezing rain! Although, we pushed our luck today, and did find ourselves stuck for awhile in Noblesville while waiting for the temps to rise and the salt trucks to do their thing. After noticing cars sliding into curbs, and people falling trying to cross the street we quickly found a parking spot near a restaurant and thankfully avoided colliding with any other cars or other stationary objects. Despite the sudden change in our plans, after carefully shuffling across a street and up a walkway, we enjoyed a lovely dinner at Houlihans. We were warm and safe so we ate slowly, even ordered dessert (I didn’t earn those calories today, but one has to do what one has to do, haha). When google maps indicated that accidents had been cleared and my weather app showed we had a window of no rain we packed up and scurried home (a 30+ min drive). Where would I be without my SmartPhone? I’m a weather addict so I was super attentive to what was coming, and thought we were fine, but some things are out of our control and this really got out of control fast! So even a close to home hike provided unexpected excitement. ‘Til next time.
