Familiar, Yet Unfamiliar

Today we ventured out for a 2 mile hike on a trail at Turkey Foot Nature Park that we have visited many times over the last several years. We were very curious what we would find since we have not had access to this trail for quite a while. What I loved about this trail was crunching fall leaves under my feet, now it is all paved. (sad face) You see, a new neighborhood of big houses are being built and it includes a fancy new golf course so this trail now is paved and crosses the cart path a couple times. I have no doubt it will be beautiful in the spring when everything is blooming, but it will also be booming with golf carts and golfers to the right and left of the trail. Already it gives off a different vibe.

Happily, an established white house situated along the old gravel road (that is now simply a trail and leads to the red bridge) is still standing. So that made me feel a bit better. Our youngest son had a good friend whose neighborhood was most quickly accessed if we cut thru on a dusty, dirt road that traversed thru the Holiday Farm and over a one lane bridge and that is where this trail ends. Our car was always coated in dust, but we loved that shortcut to A.’s house. When P. and I would pass the white house he would note that he wanted to live there. Back in the day it was an isolated location, surrounded by farm land and lots of nature…now it’s surrounded by new houses and golf cart paths. I guess a reminder that we can’t control the change that surrounds us.

‘Til next time.
